Chuy's Parade

Let me start off by saying that Laura wanted to post lately and Bless her heart, but she's been under some stress with work lately and it's taking it's toll. So as a favor, I'll wet your taste buds with at least one post.
The Chuy's parade is a great thing that happens in Austin. It's put on by the Local Icon restaurant Chuy's to support Blue Santa in the Austin area. It's been going on now for some, 11 years.
There slogan is "Kids giving to Kids". It travels the entire Congress Avenue from the Capitol to the river. Everyone brings a gift that is unwrapped to be donated for kids that can't afford or don't get gifts for Christmas, then they get sorted and delivered by volunteers. But...the best thing that happens is half way through the parade they stop, and it's a mad dash to take your present that you brought and put into the back of the trucks, on floats or whatever stops in front of you... It's a great experience for the children to learn how to give back to the community.
We have gone every year since Alicyn was a tiny tot and this year she had the honor of being in the parade with her Lonestar Dance Team. All of the girls worked supper hard on learning their dances and they did a fabulous job representing. The only problem was that it was COLD...until the sun shined through.
"Pop", Laura's Dad is in this photo keeping warm as we waited. Jaxon was totally besides himself when the floats, Disney characters and even Blue Santa came by.

Pop also brought tacos from Ken's. Jaxon loves him and them:)

We waited for the girls to make their march down. Camera's were clicking, and people were cheering for the girls as they marched by doing their routines. I was supposed to be taking a video since everyone else were taking photo's. But...by the time I knew it, they were gone!!!! Seriously, it was like, What?? Where did they go? Ugh, I need more photo's....

So I ran...and ran...trying to keep up. Waiting for a good spot and hopefully they would stop long enough to snap a few photo's. I ended up some 4 or 5 blocks away before they actually stopped. Then the controlled chaos happened when everyone was able to break the barriers and take their toys to the trucks that were waiting.
Finally I had time to take a few shots. I tried to take pictures of all the girls in the parade. I think some of the people I ended up by thought I was some kind of weirdo taking pictures of all these girls. I received some pretty strange looks so I thought quick and started shouting some of the girls names (mostly Ali) so that they would strike a pose:) Whew, got outta that one...

Ali is in the center here shaking her jingle bell rock.

BFF's: Ali and Jada (front) are never too far from each other. Thank goodness there was a girl in between them or they probably would've just talked the whole way down the parade. He He...

Ali finally noticed me...cutie pa'tootie
