I remember every detail about this day 10 years ago. I remember it like it was yesterday. Its the day the world changed for me and my generation. I have heard my parents talk about the day that JFK was assassinated, or my grandfather talk about Pearl Harbour, but for my generation September 11, 2001 is the day the world changed. As I watched from an old timer's cube at Austin ISD that morning, the 2nd plane hit. I was in disbelief, I remember hearing about the first plane and thinking it was an accident, when the 2nd hit, it was clear that it was no accident. I was the one that called and told my mom what was happening, she was in a training class. I remember wondering if we were safe here. I watched in horror, it was all that was on TV for what seemed like weeks. Just 7 days after the Trish gave birth to Lance. Still the images on the world trade center were all that played on the tv in her hospital room. I dreamt about the towers falling, and found my self daydreaming wondering how in the world this could happen, especially here in America. I was scared. I was sad for all the people who lost their lives by just going to work that morning. For all the first responders that saved so many but ended up paying the ultimate price.
I had to explain the significance of this day to Alicyn this morning. She didn't understand and had lots of questions. She will learn about that day in school, and as she gets older she will understand it more and more. Today when she watched the morning news, she was just as shocked as I was that day. The rubble and ash were overwhelming.
I will never forget, and I will continue to pray that the families that were effected directly by this horrific act find peace and will continue to believe in HOPE.
