Camp Kid

Alicyn has done what feels like a million camps this summer, as we start August off, there's only one left on the books before 2nd grade starts.

First she did Camp Sub Zero. This is at Chaparral Ice. She really enjoyed this one, especially learning how to ice skate. She is a bit boy crazy and I think might have had a slight crush on one of the counselors. She said he liked Justin Beiber (which I doubt) but he was one of the main ones teaching her to skate. They played games, went to gymnastics, went to the YMCA to swim, did crafts and just hung out. I will likely sign her up for this camp again next year. She loved it!

Then Yoga Doodle, this is a half day camp put on by the RR rec Center. And its just what it says, Yoga and doodling. They learned 4-5 yoga positions and spent the rest of the time on crafts. And I mean cool crafts, she painted a canvas beach bag, made a clip board (everyone should take note on this easy craft). It was a regular clip board, they spray painted them with the black chalk board paint and then tied ribbons on the top where the clip holder is. Super easy and super cute! They also used the first letter of their name to make some wall art for their rooms. Alicyn's A is covered in scrapbook paper that says diva, sassy, etc. Then its got a flower embellishment! Super cute, and you can get the letters for a few $ at hobby lobby. She drew Rich's fathers day picture of a bird, and matted it. And a few others that I am forgetting at the moment. All and all this camp rocked. It was inside (thank goodness), very inexpensive, and fun. We will do this one again too, only down side is that its only offered a few times during the summer.

Rockin R camp was up next, I did not like this one. It was out at Old Settlers, they did swimming and other field trips but I just didn't get a warm fuzzy with this one. Alicyn got hurt on the first day, she hit her head on the slide at the pool and gave herself a good burn on her forehead. The next day they were supposed to be going to the Waco Zoo, I decided to keep her out that day due to the injury and that I didn't know about the trip until I took her on Tuesday to camp. That's just too far without me or someone I trust. Thursday they went into Austin to an Art Museum, she said it was ok but that all the boys were making fun of the pictures since many of them were nude. She said they had to walk quite a ways too, I didn't like that. How do you keep track of that many kids in downtown Austin. They also went swimming that day which went well. On Friday they went to a movie which was fun. At some point during week she got bit by what I think was a spider, we ended up at after hours for that lovely bite since Getman was on vacation (how dare him :)). She took antibiotics but it left a scar so I am certain it was not just a mosquito. So that's that, not really a fan of Rockin R. We will not be doing this one next year.

Camp Doublecreek - this one is very well put together. They have a bus system that picks up kids all over the city of Austin. You chose your pickup location and drop your kiddos there. Which works out great for folks who live in south Austin, since the camp is in RR. Ali was nervous about being dropped of at the First Baptist church in Round rock on day one and asked me to stay until the bus came. (there was tons of kids and counselors but she still wanted me to stay). They have very specific rules about picking up from the camp site, and I had a very important work call so I picked her up early. When she walked up she was sweating like no other, the first words were its so hot. (this is an all outside camp, 100%). I wasn't sure we would make it through the week but the rest of the week went well. She swam, played tons of games, lots of water activities like slip and slide, water balloons, etc. She got to do archery, and even shoot a BB gun. (this was by far the coolest part of the camp for her). The theme of the week was dancing with the counselors a spin off of dancing with the stars. This was right up Alicyn's alley, and she signed up on the first day. Her and her partner made it to the finals which is pretty cool if you ask me. On the last day of camp they all got awards, Alicyn's was Friendliest Camper! This camp is pricey but she enjoyed it. I just wish there was some part of the day that was inside. I am on the fence on whether to do this one again next year....

In August Alicyn has Glam Girl Camp at the dance studio. She is looking forward to this one, and I know it will be awesome cause SB is running it. All of her dance family will be there so that will make it great. I will get some pictures of glam girls camp since I don't have even one of the others :(.

So there you have it, camp recount complete.
