Shelby American Museum

On our second day in Denver we had the privilege of attending the Shelby American Museum with Falcon lovers from across the country. The tour is only open on Saturday's, but word got out that we were all coming thru the area and the owners were nice enough to open it up on a Wednesday just for us.
It was, to say the least, breath taking. To go back in time when Carol Shelby was just starting up with team Ford to take on the world of automakers. What a vision this man had coming from a background of being a chicken farmer.
Our tour took us around the small hidden treasure of a showroom that housed many cars that raced and won some of the most prestigious races the world has known against the likes of Ferrari.

This is some of the Falcon's that showed up to the tour.

Inside the showroom is such a wow factor. I don't think any car in there is replaceable. They do what they can with the restorations, but time is always the factor. Currently, they are 3 years behind schedule, but even with this they continuously change the cars that are in the showroom.

These 3 beauties are actual cobra's that have yet to be changed since the day they left the track. The story goes, if you had money and time on your hand, you could do just about anything with a car. Ever hear of the name Gerber? Dan Gerber (son of Gerber baby food) raced #19. How about Bob Bondurant? Or Dan Gurney? Did you know Dan Gurney is the originator of the winner circle spraying of champagne. As the story goes, after winning a Le Mans race sponsored by a champagne company he was given a huge bottle to allegedly drink, but while everyone was looking at him, he really didn't know what to do but to shake the bottle and spray it all over everybody...and a tradition was born..

In their collection, you can ask, they'll have it. Maybe not on display but they have one somewhere and with a great story behind it. All in all it was a great place to visit, so if you are ever in the Boulder area, think about it.
