Mean old strep

Yesterday, Mrs. Farque sends me an email at work about 1pm to tell me that Alicyn has been complaining all day of her throat hurting. This kid has some weird sense in her throat, cause every time she has ever said her throat hurts, she has had strep. I have learned this the hard way, so yesterday, I believed her and got her an appointment with Getman. We came home to change and wait for daddy to get here, checked her temp...normal. When we get to the Dr's office, its 99.5, no biggie but what I would call low grade. (Dr. Getman does not by the way). Anyway, he takes a look and does a strep test, since she has no fever (at least to him), he says its probably her allergies causing the drainage and tells us to give her Zyrtec. He calls back a few hours later and says, "negative for strep, she is good to go to school - its allergies." This morning, she said her throat still hurt, but since trusty old Getman said it was allergies, I was convinced it was. I gave her some cough drops and some ibuprofen and sent her to school. (no I didn't give her ibuprofen to mask a fever, it was for the pain). I let Mrs. Farque know that it was allergies, but ask her to call if she complained anymore. No call, no email today. I pick her up, she says her throat still hurts, we get home she is freezing and has a melt down, and then.....Getman's office calls. That's when my stomach sunk. Straight to the floor. "We need to call in antibiotics for Alicyn, her strep test came back positive." Yep, they let the sample grow overnight and what to you know...mean old strep. So, now feeling like the most horrible mother in the world, I call the school, Leah, and everyone else we have exposed to let them know. Alicyn is on antibiotics and will fine to go to school on Monday (thank goodness cause that the day of her thanksgiving play and feast). She has been laying on daddy warmed side of the bed all afternoon and evening, I am sure she will be feeling better in no time. There you have it, Alicyn was right once again about Strep. Maybe she really is gonna be a doctor....
