I say to myself...self, are you up to another year of madness? And then the little voice on my right shoulder says...SHE LOVES IT! So, I introduce to you the Energy Dance Company 2011-2012 Lil Divas. This is a step up from her former team mini diva's; not everyone on the mini team moved up so we are proud of her accomplishments. I have to admit that dance is a bit much for me, but am trying (even with my moms constant reminders that its "too much") to remember that Alicyn loves it. She really really loves it. She asks to go to dance on her days off, she is dancing everywhere around the house, and the dance girls are some of her closest friends. This is another competitive team so we will be going to different places in Texas to compete. One really cool thing about being a dancer is that you get to learn from what Alicyn considers a celebrity sometimes. The director at the studio has tried out for So you think you can dance many times and knows lots of people for her time there, she brings them to the studio for weekend workshops. Alicyn loves this part, she gets to meet them, learns their moves and then can say she danced with someone who was on TV. This year so far she has danced with Kerrington Payne, Adecheke, Sammy Ramierez, and a few others (another blog post). You can google any of the above to see their dances on SYTYCD. Most days at the studio are normal, but there are the occasional "dance moms" in the crowd that cause trouble, just like the show. I guess you will have that anywhere. We try to take it in stride and distance ourselves from the drama. I tell Alicyn to stay away from mean people and not to think twice about it. She does. This year she is dancing 3 nights a week. Ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical (which is new this year and she loves), & hip hop.
Someday when she is older, I think she will appreciate that we allowed her to dance. I think she is making memories that she will cherish forever, and I think the busier you are the less opportunity to get into trouble, so lets hope that's true when she gets to high school. Lord help me.

How hard is it to get 9 girls to jump all at once? VERY!
