Red Ribbon Week
This week is Red Ribbon week at Teravista. Red Ribbon week is all about being drug free. Every day they have a theme, today's was wearing a red shirt. Ali came home today wearing a ribbon that says "Drug Free starts with ME!". She said they talked about it in class...."but no one in my class knows what drugs are". I said, what are drugs? "You know, like prescriptions that can kill you". Let me explain, Alicyn's perception of drugs comes purely from her time watching medical shows that I am addicted to. She watches everything from Grey Anatomy & Private Practice to Dr. G & Medical Incredible. If nickelodeon or Disney channel don't have something she likes, its straight to discovery health. I am not sure this is a bad thing, even though many people cringe when they hear that she watches this stuff. If you ask her what she wants to be when she grows up, she says a surgeon. I think the medical shows have their benefits :). I totally missed my calling, I would have been such a good labor & delivery nurse, but instead of finishing college, I partied. The fact that she is interested in all things medical is awesome for me, I can live vicariously through her when she is becomes a doctor. Anyway, we thought it was a great that most of the Kindergartners in her class don't know what drugs are...unfortunately, some kids aren't so lucky. I am thankful that we can afford to live in a nice neighborhood, with nice schools, and that our children are not subjected to "real drugs" this young.
