7:07am - I wake up in a panic thinking we are late for surgery, Rich reminds me that we don't have to be there til 915am. We wake Jaxon up with some apple juice since he only has 8 more minutes of allowed clear liquid time. And yes apple juice counts as a clear liquid, who would have thought....
7:20am - I take Alicyn to school. She has to eat in the car since eating in front of Jaxon would be just plain mean. Especially when he loves his breakfast.
8:15am - we head out, not knowing what traffic would be like and not wanting to be late. 8:20am - realize we forgot the camera, we can not go through this without the camera so we turn around and get it.
8:25am - officially on the road. There is no traffic so we are fine on time even with the detour. Jaxon repeatedly says "nack", Rich keeps handing him a book. I know he was thinking, when did I say book, i said snack people.
9:00am - arrive at Strictly Pediatrics - this place looks like a hospital from the outside. Its quite a bit bigger than I expected. We sign in, and do the insurance stuff, and write that big check.
Saying "cheese" upon arrival at SPSC9:10am - We get called back to the pre-op area. Jaxon refused to stand on the scale so Rich ended up holding him and then being weighed, and then we were escorted to our room. It was pretty bear, just a crib stretcher, a few chairs and a cart with some supplies. Jaxon danced all around and was happy for the first few minutes.

9:30am - the boredom set in and he was ready to run. Running is not really allowed in there, so he cried, and kicked and threw himself on the ground. We changed him into his hospital gown, and put on the silly socks they give you anytime you have surgery. He climbed UNDER the crib stretcher and played there until I panicked that it could fall on him if he touched the wrong thing. Dr. Rainey and her resident came in and asked if we had any questions. We didn't have any about the procedure itself but did have some for the anesthesiologist.

Finally they offered us to get into the wagon, once that happened he was happy, Rich just pulled him around the halls.
10:00am - anesthesiologist came in next, he asked some general health questions, and was not overly nice. Not overly rude just not comforting. I asked about how the IV would be put in, he said it would be done after he was asleep from the gas. He said it would only take about 5 breathes of gas before he would be asleep. I think he thought that would be comforting but it wasn't. I picturing all this in my head at this point, my eyes are welling up with tears.
10:05am - About that time, they asked if he was ready. Not really, but OK. They left him in the wagon since he was happy there. Rich handed over the reigns to the OR nurse and they pulled him in through the big doors. As they start to shut behind him, Jaxon turned around and said "bye-bye". If he only knew what was about to happen. We both cried at that point, its so hard watching your little boy be rolled into the unknown that comes with anesthesia. We were taken to step down (recovery) to wait for him to wake up enough to be brought to us.
10:39am - Dr. Rainey comes in and says the surgery went well. The right eye was more clogged than the left, which we were expecting. She said the balloon went well and she didn't expect any issues. After she left, we waited. And waited for what seemed like forever.
11:15am - Jaxon was carried by a nurse into the room. His eyes were open, and he wasn't crying but he had no idea where he was. I took him but then he got really upset. He started rolling so much that I couldn't hold him and reaching for daddy. Rich took him and tried to calm him down but it was like fighting an alligator for about 20 minutes. Then he settled in with me and went to sleep. Every few minutes he woke up and was so sad. We sang the wheels on the bus and he would settle back in fairly quickly. After about 30 minutes, he woke up and took some apple juice. He sucked the whole cup down, and the nurse said he could go home since he was drinking. We asked him if he was ready to go home, he said "JES". The nurse took out his IV, and we headed out. We were told he would sleep most of the day, not be interested in food, and be woozie for the rest of the day.

Poor buddy just out of surgery
12:30pm - We got home. We thought we would be taking a nap and relaxing, not really what happened. He did hang out on the bed with us for a little while and ate banana bread, and drank Gatorade. By the time it was time to get Alicyn, he was running, jumping and having a grand ole time. Only problem is that he couldn't stand up for long without falling down. He is already clumsy, add anesthesia and he is really clumsy. We did get the bloody nose, but no bloody tears. In fact still today (sat) there are still no tears. I am a bit concerned but was told to call back on Monday since the swelling could be keeping them from coming.
Here's what they were doing by the evening time. Just a normal night in the McGovern house.
Overall the day was stressful but OK. I am thankful it went well and that its behind us. I haven't even called Dr. Getman yet. :)
