My grandma Lebo was seriously one of the coolest people I have ever known. She and I were tight, as close as a kid and grandma could be. Maybe its cause my dad and I are both only children. I was the only grandchild, so yes, I can admit it I was spoiled. And still am, just a little. I grew up on the same street with both sets of grandparents. Yes same street. My dad's parents were across the street. So when the going got tough, the tough went to be rescued by gma. There are not many wrongs in a teenagers world that a piece of fried toast with honey can't fix. It had plenty of perks but also some pitfalls. Like sneaking out for instance, kinda hard to do that when your grandparents are right there sitting at the kitchen table at all hours of the night watching people drive down the street. I was resourceful, especially when I was on a mission, I just went out the back door. (Sorry Mom). My gma was classy, always dressed up, perfect hair and red lipstick, and the best jewelry. One year she got my a herringbone necklace to match hers, I thought I had died and gone to Heaven. I don't know exactly what year but it must have been at least their 25th anniversary, my gma got an anniversary band. I loved this ring from the minute I saw it. It was gold, with diamonds set inside the band, nothing too fancy, just pretty and classy. She knew I loved this ring. She died many years before my grandpa, and my Pop could not part with anything especially not jewelry. He has more stuff than the average person that's for sure. The jewelry got put away, and it wasn't until he died that we went though it all, did an inventory and put it in the safety deposit box. It's been sitting there for years. So we figured, 10 years was as good a year as any to get that anniversary band and add it to my wedding set. Not melted down and remade, I just wanted to be able to wear it behind my wedding set and have it fit as close as possible. My grandma's fingers were tiny, but we took a plain wedding band of hers and used it to get the anniversary band re-sized to fit me. The jeweler had to make a slight modification to my wedding ring, to make it all sit closer. We picked it up yesterday, and I am so excited. I love that I am getting to enjoy something that was hers, in its original form, just a little bigger. I keep looking down at it, its all shiny and blingy right now. I know my grandma wanted to me to have this ring, and now I do. Someday, my kids will be able to have this ring too, which I think is super cool. Oh, and Rich got off super easy too cause this is really the best gift I could have ever asked for and it was no trouble at all. The jeweler we used is fabulous, I told him what I was thinking, he gave us 4 options and we were out the door, ring on my hand in less than a week.
If you need any custom work done, Charles is your man. Honest, professional, cheap. And he does most of the work for the jewelers in town, so if you have ever had anything re-sized etc, they probably sent it to Charles and charged you triple what he charged them.
