Our boy has had one heck of a week+. After the whole "I am in too much of a hurry to pay attention to toddlers finger smashing" episode at daycare, little man has had all kinds of sickness...one thing after the other.
Thursday - finger smashed; 1/2 day of school; Took him to Dr. for xrays to be sure the B8T$H didn't break his finger. My good buddy Dr. Getman was not there since he had a baby a few days ago. (#4 for him - whoa) But xray was clear. Came home to wait for more bruising....
Friday - 1/2 day of school due to fever (still 101 while on Motrin for the smashed finger). I took half day and took care of him since Daddy was working on the backyard project from H E double hockey sticks.
Saturday/Sunday - I resisted the urge to take JT to after hours clinic. Don't think I didn't call both days to see if Dr. Getman might just be coming in since he was off all of the week before. No such luck. Jaxon was pretty miserable. Complained of neck hurting; coughing; complained when he peed saying "ding ding owwwie", and then ate literally one bite all day I couldn't take it anymore and made an appt for first thing Monday morning....
Monday - see Getman, he looks like he has been run over by a mack truck. Since I have had strep twice since mid Feb, and he complained of neck hurting, he decided to test him for Strep. He said that chances of him having Strep were low but wanted to rule it out. He then said "and what does his penis have to do with cough congestion and not eating?" My reply, I have no idea but while we were paying a copay might as well check it out". He takes a look and sees some irritation but nothing alarming, says to use hydrocortizone and sends us on our merry way. Jaxon cried said owwie ding ding the whole way home. It was horrible. I am thinking, it has to be something else. But what? Getman calls later and says initial Strep is negative.
Tuesday - I call Getman's office; talk to the phone nurse and leave a message for Getman to call me. He is super busy but asks the phone nurse to find out if Jaxon still has fever. Of course, he doesn't at the moment so I say no. She says "he said to come in tomorrow if he still has fever." I am thinking, ok, he is sure this is a virus and is over seeing us. But I go on, Jaxon complaining every time he pees now. At noon, he calls, tells me the same thing but says if something is really going on with his privates, that we will need to do urine sample and blood work to find out what it is. He again says, if he is not better tomorrow, come in whenever you want, I will work you in. About 30 minutes after his call, Jaxon's pain is so high that he is screaming, its horrible, like horrible, he is climbing up me trying to get comfortable. I say screw it and put him in the car to go to Getman even though its not tomorrow. I call the nurse on the way to let her know that I am on the way. Of course, his nurse who I love Brenda gets us right in. He takes another look, nothing alarming...but says we will have to put in a catheter to get some urine. OMG! Avoid this at all costs unless you think your kid is dying. Seriously. It was horrible and traumatic. They tried 3 times to get urine before they finally got it. Apparently boy parts are much more difficult to deal with than girls. They get the pee, I run out the door with a screaming bloody murder kid to get Alicyn from school (I was late so she had to sit in the office, I know I suck as a mom). We get home, mom comes over and helps with him while Rich and I work on the backyard project. The whole time he is MISERABLE! About 4, Getman calls with results. Urine came back clear, but....after allowing the strep test growl; it was POSITIVE. So, Antibiotics here we come. I contemplated going to children's about 5 o'clock but decided to try to make it without an ER visit. He went to bed about 10 (much later than usual); by 11:45 we both couldn't take it anymore and packed a sleeping Alicyn and a screaming Jaxon into the car to head to the hospital. Alicyn got dropped at moms since she had school; and off we went for our first experience at Dell Children's Hospital. It was very slow that night (thank you God for that one) so we got in and out in about 3 hours. I am thinking that is pretty good considering. The Dr. that saw him said there was nothing we could do other than give him motrin/tylenol and that the pain was caused from the trama to the "area". UGH!
Wednesday - woke up happy and was hurting only a little. No trips to Getmans that day. I called in-again. I attempted to work from home but that mainly consisted of answering a few emails' Jaxon was not having it. Develops diarrhea~lovely, just want we needed.
Thursday - me home again this time its the other end with the issue. He is happy though for the most part. I was going to again attempt to make my team meeting while he was sleeping or entertaining himself; NOT instead he threw up as the meeting started from coughing so hard!
Friday - No complaints of anything! Finally well enough to go back to school!
And here we are at Saturday, he has a TERRIBLE diaper rash. I am not sure if its the antibiotics; the watered down juice that he has been getting instead of milk since he was coughing so much; or yet another virus.
That's the wrap up; I am so done with sickness.
